Report: Tottenham deal for top target in jeopardy as clubs can’t agree price

Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis since the start of the window, bidding £53m for the playmaker back in May (BBC). This would have marked a record transfer fee at the time for the Lilywhites.

However, the Spanish club turned it down due to Lo Celso’s staggering £88m buyout clause.

The transfer window closes on August 8 for incoming Premier League transfers, giving Levy and Pochettino just five more days to get a deal over the line for Lo Celso.

However, time seems to be against Spurs in terms of this deal, as the Daily Star report that Real Betis are holding out for £70m while Tottenham only want to pay £45m.

The report adds that failure to secure Poch’s fellow Argentine could increase friction between the manager and those in charge of the club.

A £25m difference between the two valuations seems like a huge gap to bridge in under a week for Spurs.
