Report: Tottenham defender is having a ‘complete nightmare’ out on loan

In their weekly update on the Tottenham players out on loan, Football.London have described Japhet Tanganga’s spell at Augsburg as a ‘complete nightmare’, with the defender yet to make an appearance for the Bundesliga club.

After a difficult few years at Spurs, where he was overlooked by consecutive managers, Tanganga would have hoped to get his career back on track at Augsburg after sealing a loan move to the German club in the summer.

However, the 24-year-old recurring injury problems prevented him from doing so at the start of the season, with the youngster being sidelined with a knee problem for the first couple of months in Germany.

Japhet Tanganga continues to be overlooked

Tanganga eventually returned to full fitness at the start of November but since then, Augsburg boss Jess Thorup has continued to overlook him.

The club are doing better than expected so far this season, currently sitting in 10th place in the Bundesliga table, and that has meant that Tanganga has not been able to force himself into the side.

The Tottenham academy graduate was once again left out of the matchday squad for Augsburg’s 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

It was previously reported by Kicker two weeks ago that Spurs are considering cutting short Tanganga’s loan spell in January.

It has now been a month and a half since Tanganga’s return, which means that his non-selection clearly does not have to do with his fitness issues.

It appears as if Jess Thorup simply does not rate the Spurs youngster and it now looks quite likely that the 24-year-old will be recalled in January and loaned out to a different club.
