The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has revealed that Ange Postecoglou has been unimpressed with Djed Spence’s behaviour and attitude from the time the Australian walked through the door in the summer.
Spence has now joined Genoa on a loan deal, with the Italian club having the option to sign him permanently for £8.5m in the summer (Fabrizio Romano).
The move comes after Leeds decided to cut short his loan at Elland Road and send the right-back to Spurs, with Daniel Farke admitting that it was down to disciplinary issues (Joe Donnohue).
Djed Spence is not in Postecoglou’s plans right now
Kilpatrick has now revealed that Spence was quite reluctant to head to Genoa but Tottenham made it clear to the defender that he is not part of Postecoglou’s plans and that he may not get a better offer this month.
The journalist says that there are issues with the 23-year-old’s attitude and punctuality, while major question marks have also been raised about his focus and behaviour.
Kilpatrick explains that Postecoglou values professionalism just as much as he does talent but Spence did not meet the 58-year-old’s standards in preseason as he struggled to be punctual and show the desired attitude in training.

Spence’s talent has never been in doubt but question marks about his attitude have been raised right from his Middlesbrough days. Hopefully, the penny has now dropped for the right-back after this move or he risks ending up like Tanguy Ndombele.
