Tottenham Hotspur have dropped out of the race to sign 21-year-old Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard (La Repubblica via Sport Witness).
The report states that Leeds United and Liverpool are the only ‘eligible candidates’ to make a late move for the Danish international before the window shuts on Tuesday.
There have been strong links between Damsgaard and Spurs throughout the transfer window but it now appears there are no potential deals in the works.
The 21-year-old gained a lot of plaudits for his performances with Denmark at the Euros. He was a massive catalyst for their impressive tournament in which they reached the semi-final.
Daamsgard’s second goal of the tournament was in the semi-final against England; a stunning free-kick that showcased the winger’s clear ability on the big stage.
Despite this, Tottenham do not appear to be pursuing the Sampdoria midfielder and he may now be snatched away by another Premier League club.

Damsgard is clearly a great talent so it is a bit of a surprise to see him still at Sampdoria at this stage in the window. Tottenham, in my opinion, require more creative options but it does not appear that Damsgaard will be coming to fill that void. It feels inevitable that he will be a Premier League player soon but probably not for Spurs.
