Report: Tottenham enquire about £25.6m-rated midfielder

Brazilian publication Globoesporte are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the possibility of signing Flamengo midfielder Gerson this month.

Spurs are said to be keen on signing a midfielder following the injury sustained by Moussa Sissoko which is expected to keep him out of action until April.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of midfielders across Europe over recent weeks including Boubakary Soumare (L’Equipe) and Gedson Fernandes (the Guardian).

Now it appears that Spurs have also made an approach for Gerson who has led Flamengo to their most successful season ever (The Sun).

The Brazilian midfielder did have a relatively unsuccessful three-year stint at Roma but has been in fantastic form since returning to his homeland.

ClubCall reported back in October that Spurs chief scout Steve Hitchen watched Gerson in action in the Copa Libertadores semi-final first leg against Gremio.

It has now been suggested that Spurs have asked about the midfielder’s availability and have been told that he will not be sold for any less than £25.6 million.

Spurs Web Opinion

Looking at the number of midfielders we have been linked with in recent weeks, it seems that a central midfielder might be the club’s priority this window. I actually don’t think central midfield is our weakest position despite our injury problems. If both Winks and Ndombele can stay fit, I can see them forming a formidable partnership together in the middle of the pitch.
