Report: Tottenham enquired about Premier League keeper prior to Gollini deal

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed their first signing of the summer on Saturday following the arrival of Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent.

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici also explored the possibility of signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Paratici’s enquiry saw the Premier League newcomers notify the Italian of the 25-year-old’s hefty price tag.

Instead, Tottenham proceeded with their interest in Gollini which was a much more affordable option for the North Londoners given the fact that the shot-stopper arrived initially on loan and would only have to pay Atalanta £12.9 million if they bring him to the club on a permanent basis.

Football.London previously reported Joe Hart has already been informed that he will not be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans for the season ahead.

With Hugo Lloris having under twelve months left on his contract, Gollini is still likely to play understudy to the Frenchman this season and potentially feature in the Europa Conference League and the domestic cup competitions, where he will be given the opportunity to prove himself.

Hart’s future at the club appears to be over and he must decide whether to leave this summer for first-team football or collect his wages in North London for the next year.
