Report: Tottenham enter race for £17m-rated French starlet

Tottenham have joined a host of clubs who are interested in signing Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, according to CalcioMercato.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the most talented youngsters in French football after breaking into the Reims starting eleven this season.

His displays in Ligue 1 have put him firmly on the radar for a move this summer, with a host of teams said to be queuing up to land the talented young striker.

CalcioMercato claim that Spurs are one of the sides attempting to build a rapport with Reims as part of the process to begin negotiations for Ekitike, who is likely to be valued at around £17 million.

But the report also details an array of clubs across Europe are all tracking his progress this term ahead of the summer transfer window.

In the Premier League, Spurs are likely to be rivalled by Newcastle – who approached the youngster in January (Sky Sports) – as well as fellow London sides Arsenal and West Ham.

Meanwhile, Barcelona, Roma and Atletico Madrid all admire the player, while interest closer to home in France from Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille and Lyon cannot be ignored.

Ekitike has netted 10 goals for Reims in a breakthrough campaign, as part of his route to the France U21 squad, although he has yet to make his first bow for his country at that level (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

There are plenty of clubs queuing up to land Ekitike ahead of the new campaign and it is no surprise that so many big names are likely to battle it out.

Good, young strikers are pretty hard to come by, but the reported price that is being quoted seems very modest and one that a club like Spurs could pursue.
