Report: Tottenham enter the race for Sevilla defender

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Sevilla defender Joules Kounde, according to The Mirror.

The French international, who has a £76million transfer release clause has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium this summer with Chelsea and Barcelona both said to be keen on securing his signature.

Tottenham are said to have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race for the centre half after the Stamford Bridge outfit set their sights on Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

Ligue 1 giants PSG are also admirers of the 23-year-old, however, the player is reported to prefer a move to England.

It seems unlikely that Tottenham would be prepared to financially compete with the likes of Chelsea and PSG for Kounde, when they have not broken the bank to try to land Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol.

Kounde is more likely end up at Barcelona, with Tottenham deciding to bide their time for Bastoni or Gvardiol next summer.
