Report: Tottenham eyeing move for England international striker

CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

Abraham struggled to get regular starts at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel during the 2020-21 season but he has gone from strength to strength since making the move to the Italian capital last summer.

The centre-forward was one of the best players in the Serie A last season, scoring 26 goals and providing six assists (Transfermarkt).

Although the 25-year-old has made a quiet start to this season, he will still be pushing to make the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar, along with Harry Kane.

CalcioMercato have now claimed that Spurs might look to unite Kane and Abraham by making a move for the AS Roma star.

The report adds that the Lilywhites face competition from Manchester United for the former Chelsea man. Abraham’s current contract with Jose Mourinho’s side runs until 2026 (Transfermartkt).

I do not think it would make sense for Spurs to spend big on a backup to Kane as Richarlison is well suited to playing that role. I suspect Conte will be keener on signing a winger as a backup to Kulusevski and Son, rather than a centre-forward. Besides, Abraham will likely not be tempted by the prospect of playing second fiddle to Kane at Spurs.
