Report: Tottenham eyeing PSG starlet as contract talks allegedly stall

According to a report from Spanish publication AS (as relayed by Tribal Football), Tottenham Hotspur are contemplating a move for Paris Saint-Germain starlet Xavi Simons.

Simons, who graduated through the ranks at La Masia, left Barcelona to join PSG in the summer of 2019.

The highly-rated central midfielder has represented the Netherlands from Under-16s through to the Under-19s level.

The youngster was handed his senior debut for PSG by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino back in February. However, the 18-year-old has not made a single appearance for the French giants so far this campaign.

AS claim that negotiations between Simon’s agent Mino Riola and PSG have now stalled. It is explained that with the midfielder’s current contract running out at the end of the season, his future is now up in the air.

Simon is free to talk to clubs from January 1 and Tottenham are thought to be monitoring the youngster’s situation.

However, Spurs might not find a move for the teenager to be straightforward, with the club thought to be facing competition from London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

Simons’s situation has quite a lot of similarities to our signing of Bryan Gil and our failed pursuit of Ilaix Moriba – a talented young player at a big club whose contract is running down.

Identifying these kinds of market opportunities was perhaps one of the main reasons Fabio Paratici was brought in by Daniel Levy.
