Report: Tottenham face battle to hang on to highly rated youngster

According to The Mirror (print edition, page 48, June 19, 2019), Tottenham are facing an uphill battle in their quest to hang on to 19-year-old midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe.

The publication claims that the teenager has a lot of admirers at rival clubs and is considering his future at Tottenham. It is further claimed that the former England U-17 international has only 12 months left to run on his contract.

Oakley-Boothe made his first-team debut for Tottenham back in September 2017 when he turned out against Barnsley in the League Cup. Although he has failed to make an appearance for the 1st team in a competitive game since then, he has been involved in pre-season friendlies and has impressed.

The Lambeth-born youngster, who joined the Spurs academy in 2017, has been one of the stand out performers for the U-23s and was recently named in Tuttosport’s list of the 100 best talents in Europe aged 21 and under.

It would be a massive blow for the club to lose Oakley-Boothe as he has shown maturity beyond his years in his displays for the youth teams as well as in his rare appearances for the senior team.

In addition, Pochettino clearly seems to be a fan of the teenager but it is understandable why the youngster is considering his future the path to first-team football seems quite difficult to say the least.
