Report: Tottenham face competition from Real Madrid to sign Ligue 1 duo

It looks as if Tottenham could face an uphill battle in the summer to land Lille duo Victor Osimhen and Boubakary Soumare, as reports indicate that Real Madrid are now also interested in both players.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Soumare in January L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) but it was Newcastle United who apparently came the closest to landing the midfielder on deadline day (Le10sport).

However, the Magpies didn’t get their man as Soumare ended up staying at Lille, while Spurs ended up signing Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal.

Osimhen was also said to be on Tottenham’s radar in January (Sky Sport) as the Lilywhites sought to sign a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane, but they ultimately failed in their quest.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central now reports that Real Madrid have extensively scouted both Osimhen and Soumare, and will bid for both players when the transfer market reopens in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Luis Campos and Joao Sacramento’s extensive knowledge of the duo can give us an advantage in this race, the players’ heads will likely be turned when they hear of Real Madrid’s interest. So Jose certainly has some convincing to do if the Lilywhites are going to nab either player this summer.
