Report: Tottenham facing plenty of competition for 25-year-old defender

Reports over the last few days have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from a number of European clubs for Real Madrid right-back Alvaro Odriozola.

Odriozola has not quite hit the expected heights since his move to Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2018.

The 25-year-old has struggled to get a look-in this season, having made just one Lia Liga appearance so far for Los Blancos (transfermarkt).

The Spanish international was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during the previous transfer window but the North London club ended up moving for Matt Doherty from Wolves instead.

Spanish publication Todofichajes claimed last week that Zinedine Zidane does not consider Odriozola a part of his plans and the full-back is likely to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer if the club do not find a buyer for him before the end of this month.

The report suggested that Tottenham were facing competition from Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan for the defender.

Gianluca Di Marzio has now revealed that Fiorentina are also keen on signing the defender and have already had talks with the player’s entourage to convince him to move to Florence.

Odriozola is not the only right-back we have been linked with in recent days, with LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo also being suggested as a target. That potentially suggests that perhaps Mourinho is not completely satisfied with his options at right-back and it is a position that the club want to strengthen in the near future.
