Report: Tottenham feel ‘comfortable’ because key man does not have a release clause

Football Insider have now said that despite suggestions to the contrary in the Australian press, Ange Postecoglou does not have a release clause in his Tottenham contract.

After Jurgen Klopp announced last month that he will be departing Liverpool at the end of this season, some outlets over the last week have suggested that the Reds could turn to Postecoglou to replace the German (The Athletic).

The fact that Postecoglou supported Liverpool growing up may also perhaps worry Spurs fans that he would be tempted to take over at Anfield.

However, Football.London claimed a few days ago that Tottenham have no fears about losing their head coach as he is ‘loyal’ to the club and ‘excited’ about the work he is doing at Hotspur Way.

Daniel Levy does not intend to let Postecoglou go

Football Insider have now said that despite the rumours circulating back in Postecoglou’s home country, the Spurs boss does not have any release clause in his deal with the North London side.

The report asserts that the 58-year-old is happy to spearhead a long-term project at Spurs and Daniel Levy will make it extremely difficult for any interested club to poach him.

The publication goes on to add that Tottenham are ‘comfortable’ with the situation at present since Postecoglou still has three years left on his contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Liverpool are a bigger club than Spurs, they are certainly not in a position to offer Postecoglou substantially more resources in the transfer market than Tottenham, nor can they offer him as much control as he enjoys at N17.

Besides, Klopp would be a hard act to follow and he would be considered a failure unless he wins the biggest trophies. In contrast, winning any trophy at all at Spurs (even a League Cup) would substantially boost Ange’s reputation. I do not see why he would be tempted to jump ship to Liverpool despite the soft spot he has for the club.
