Report: Tottenham getting frustrated with European club over sale negotiations

Sky Sports News have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are getting frustrated with Ajax over the negotiations regarding Steven Bergwijn.

The print edition of Algemeen Dagblad – 27/06/22 (via Sport Witness) revealed on Monday that Ajax and Spurs had agreed on an initial fee of around €25m (£21.5m) for Bergwijn, and were only negotiating potential add-ons.

However, reports emerged on Tuesday that Spurs had offered Bergwijn to Everton as a makeweight in a deal to sign Richarlison (Telegraph).

Sky Sports News have now explained that Antonio Conte’s men have become frustrated at Ajax’s refusal to meet their asking price for the Netherlands international, which is what prompted them to offer the winger to Everton.

Meanwhile, The Athletic report that while the Toffees are interested in signing Bergwijn, any deal for the 24-year-old would have to be separate from the Richarlison deal.

The report adds that Spurs want to bring in a forward before cashing in on the former PSV Eindhoven man.

It is asserted that should Ajax’s pursuit of Bergwijn drag on, the Spurs winger will consider moving to a Premier League club instead.

I think the most likely scenario would be Spurs signing Richarlison for around £55m- £60m and then selling Bergwijn to Ajax for a deal worth around £25m including add-ons. I suspect both transfers will be completed within the next week.
