Report: Tottenham have £51m bid rejected for 26-year-old winger

A Bola have revealed that Porto have turned down an offer of €60m (£51.3m) including add-ons from Tottenham Hotspur for winger Pepe.

Pepe has been a regular in Porto’s starting eleven since joining the club from Brazilian side Gremio two years ago.

The versatile 26-year-old, who has featured in either flank, as a centre-forward, an attacking midfielder and even as a right-back for the Portuguese side, registered 15 goal contributions (five goals, 10 assists) last season.

Tottenham’s offer for Pepe was turned down

A Bola claim that Spurs presented an offer of €45m (£38.5m) upfront plus a further €15m (£12.8m) in add-ons for Pepe, which was turned down by Porto.

The publication states that the Dragons had no intention of accepting the bid as they consider the player to have enormous potential and Sergio Conceicao sees him as an important part of his set-up.

The report reveals that Porto made it clear to Tottenham that they would have to meet Pepe’s €75m (£64.2m) release clause to lure him away from Estadio do Dragao.

So, A Bola add that unless Spurs loosen their purse strings and up their offer, the versatile wide-man will remain at the Portuguese club for the time being.

Finally, the publication also reveals that Arsenal enquired about the winger’s availability earlier this summer but withdrew their interest when Porto made it clear to the Gunners that they would have to pay the player’s mammoth release clause.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why Postecoglou would want Pepe as he can cover for a number of positions, including both the wide areas, up front and he could even operate as one of the two number eights.

In fact, Tottenham might be interested in Brennan Johnson for a very similar reason, with the Welshman also being capable of operating in several different roles.
