TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have already begun talks with Mauricio Pochettino over returning to the club amidst the uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s future.
Multiple publications claimed last week that Conte’s days at Spurs might be numbered (Daily Mail) and over the last few days, there have been even more concerning developments regarding the Italian’s future.
Gianluca Di Marzio reportedly told on his L’Originale’ program on Sky Sports Italy (as relayed by The Metro) over the weekend that he thinks the Italian will leave the North London club at the end of the season.
However, it has since been clarified that Conte has put off talks over a new contract until the end of the season and that it is simply Di Marzio’s prediction that the 53-year-old will exit Spurs (Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas).
If TMW’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham are already taking steps to plan for life after Conte.
The publication backs up what we have heard from other reports over recent weeks, suggesting that Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are the two names at the top of Spurs’ radar.
TMW allege that the Lilywhites have now begun ‘direct talks’ with Pochettino’s camp over returning to the club.
Spurs Web Opinion
The only reason I was sceptical about whether Spurs would approach Pochettino was that the Argentine did not strike me as someone Paratici would have a lot in common with, in terms of his footballing philosophy.
However, now that Paratici’s future at Tottenham also looks to be in doubt on the back of Juvenuts’ capital gains trail, there is now every chance that Levy will hit the reset button and bring Pochettino back to the club as a manager rather than just as a head coach.
