Report: Tottenham have been alerted by former star being put up for sale

According to a report from Marca (as relayed by The Daily Express), Tottenham Hotspur are on alert after Real Madrid put Gareth Bale up for sale in January.

Bale’s return to Tottenham last season did not turn out to be the fairytale that Spurs fans would have hoped for, with the Welshman spending the majority of the campaign as a bit-part player as the North Londoners stuttered to a seventh-place finish.

However, the 32-year-old still boasted an impressive goal record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the limited game time that he got.

Injury troubles have prevented the winger from getting much game time on his return to Real Madrid and he is now set to enter the final six months of his contract at the Spanish capital.

According to Marca, Madrid would consider offers for Bale in January to avoid losing him for free in the summer.

It is alleged that this has alerted Spurs, who are on the lookout for a world-class forward to partner Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Spurs Web Opinion

I just do not see Bale as a particularly good fit for Conte. While the Welshman showed last season that he still has the quality to make a difference in the final third, I am not sure if he can cope with the physical demands of Conte’s set-up, particularly off the ball.
