Report: Tottenham ‘have been checking in’ on out-of-favour PL centre-back

90 min claim that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Everton centre-back Ben Godfrey, who has been put up for sale ahead of the January transfer window.

Godfrey was widely viewed as one of the best-emerging defenders in England just a couple of years ago, having won Everton’s Young Player of the Season at the end of his first campaign at Merseyside and even being capped twice by England.

However, the 25-year-old has seen his career nosedive since and is now behind the likes of James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Jarrad Branthwaite in Sean Dyche’s pecking order, having made just one Premier League appearance so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham are looking at Everton’s Ben Godfrey

90 min claim that Godfrey is now looking to leave Goodison Park in search of regular game time and that the Toffees are willing to listen to offers for him.

The outlet reveals that both Tottenham and Newcastle, who are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements, have been ‘checking in’ on the centre-back, with both clubs said ‘long-term admirers’ of the player.

The publication adds that Godfrey is also of interest to Bournemouth, Burnley and Crystal Palace, while Scottish side Rangers are also keeping tabs on him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Godfrey does not fit into Sean Dyche’s style of play but one can argue that he would be a much better fit for an Ange Postecoglou side. Having said that, one would think that Tottenham would be looking at defenders of a higher calibre than the Everton man.
