Report: Tottenham have come closest to signing rumoured Liverpool target

According to a report by TuttoMercatoWeb (as relayed by TEAMtalk), Tottenham Hotspur have come the closest to signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar who is also said to be on Liverpool’s radar.

Skriniar was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham during last summer’s transfer window with the Slovak’s agent even being pictured with Tottenham’s technical director Steve Hitchen in Italy (Gianluca Di Marzio).

The speculation linking the centre-back with a move to North London once again resurfaced during January but the move did not materialise.

TuttoMercatoWeb suggests that Spurs could reignite their interest in Skriniar at the end of the season since Inter could be forced to sell some players due to their financial troubles.

The report claims that Jose Mourinho’s men could face competition from the Reds, who considered moving for the 25-year-old last month before eventually signing Ben Davies from Preston and bringing in Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke and despite the double signing, the Anfield outfit still retains an interest in the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

Skriniar now seems to have become an important part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Inter. So, it remains to be seen if the Serie A club would be willing to let him go in the summer. However, the Slovak will only have two years left on his contract at the end of the season. So, if he does not sign a new deal, next summer might be the last window where Inter could get decent value for Skriniar in the market.
