Report: Tottenham have enquired about Bundesliga star ahead of summer window

A report in this week’s edition of Sports Bild (as relayed by Sport Witness) reveals that Tottenham are among the clubs vying to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch in the summer.

The report claims that the 24-year-old’s impressive performances in the Bundesliga this season have put him in the radar of several Premier League clubs.

It is revealed that Spurs have already enquired about the former Werder Bremen man, while Arsenal and Inter Milan have also scouted him this season.

However, it is asserted that Southampton and Newcastle currently lead the race for the Hoffenheim star and are ‘already digging’ to get him signed.

Tottenham’s scouts reportedly watched Grillitsch in action regularly last season and were left impressed by his displays (Sky Sports) but a move never materialised for the Austrian international.

The latest report in Sports Bild reveals that the midfielder, who is contracted to Hoffenheim till 2022, has a release clause of €25 million.

It is asserted that Grillitsch will make a decision on his future before the start of the European Championship in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have lacked a genuine ball carrier in central midfield since Mousa Dembele left the club a year ago. I, like many Spurs fans, was hoping that Ndombele will help plug that gap but the Frenchman has struggled to hit the heights expected. If Jose is unconvinced by Ndombele’s fitness by the end of the season, perhaps it would make sense to cut our losses on the 23-year-old and sing Grillitsch instead.
