Report: Tottenham have enquired about La Liga defender amidst contract fiasco

90 min have revealed that Tottenham have enquired about Ronald Araujo, whose new contract at Barcelona has not yet been registered with La Liga.

Araujo’s previous deal was set to expire this June but the centre-back penned a four-year extension with Barcelona last summer.

However, it is explained that the Catalan giants have not been able to successfully register the contract with La Liga due to their financial issues.

90 min state that the situation has been ‘upsetting’ for Araujo and his representatives have been fielding inquiries from several clubs, including Spurs.

Apart from the Lilywhites, the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United have also allegedly expressed interest in the centre-back’s services.

However, the report asserts that Barcelona are ‘not worried’ about Araujo’s situation and insists that his contract situation will be rectified in due course.

90 min add that Xavi Hernandez’s men are confident that Araujo and his teammate Gavi, whose contract is also yet to be registered, will remain Barca players next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Irrespective of what happens with Araujo, I suspect that Spurs and other European clubs would be circling over many of Barca’s players this summer as the Catalan club could be forced into a mini-firesale in order to balance their books.
