NapoliCalcioLive have revealed that Tottenham have made Napoli’s Alex Meret their top target and are not put off by the Serie A club’s high asking price for the goalkeeper.
Multiple Italian outlets have reported over the past couple of months that Meret is one of the names on Tottenham’s radar to take over the gloves from Hugo Lloris at the end of the season (La Repubblica via Calcio Napoli 24).
NapoliCalcioLive have now gone a step further and suggested that the Napoli shot-stopper’s recent displays have convinced the North London club to make him their first-choice target.
The publication asserts that Spurs are ‘determined to focus’ on Meret ahead of the summer transfer window and are expected to knock on Napoli’s door soon.
It is alleged that the Italian club’s asking price for the 26-year-old is expected to exceed €40m (£35.1m) but that figure is ‘absolutely not scary’ for Tottenham, who are determined to steal a march on their competitors in the race for the goalkeeper.
Spurs Web Opinion
All the reports linking Meret with a move to Spurs have come from Italian outlets while none of the journalists who have sources high up at Tottenham have named the 26-year-old as one of the club’s targets.
That suggests that the news is likely being fed to the media by the player’s camp in an effort to put pressure on Napoli to offer a new contract.
