Report: Tottenham have offer for centre-back turned down

According to Spanish publication AS, Granada have turned down Tottenham’s opening offer for Domingos Duarte.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will strengthen their backline before the transfer window slams shut in a week.

Reports have suggested the North London club would have to sell one of their central defenders before bringing in another one.

However, sources from Spain claimed over the weekend that Nuno had urged the club to snap up Duarte, who has been a rock at the heart of the Granada defence over the last couple of years.

It was subsequently reported that Tottenham were set to test the Spanish club’s resolve with an £8.5m offer for the defender, who was alleged to be keen on completing a move to North London.

AS have now revealed that Nuno’s men made an €8m (£6.8m) opening offer for Duarte but the bid was turned down by Granada.

It is asserted that the La Liga club have told Tottenham they will have to pay €18m (£15.4m) to land the central defender this summer.

I do not expect us to sign a centre-back before the window closes, mainly because Davinson Sanchez now looks unlikely to leave.

Between Dier, Sanchez, Romero, Rodon (Tangana and Davies), Nuno might feel he has enough options to carry on for now and reassess in January.
