Report: Tottenham have offered wantaway player to Atletico Madrid

According to Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur have now offered Atletico Madrid the chance to sign Giovani Lo Celso this summer.

Lo Celso thrived on loan at Villarreal during the second half of the season and previous reports indicated that the midfielder is one of the La Liga club’s main targets this summer (El Periodico Mediterraneo).

It emerged a couple of weeks ago that Unai Emery’s men were in advanced talks to snap up the Tottenham star (Football Insider) but the deal has seemingly not progressed since then.

The Times reported this week that Villarreal are hoping to snap up the 26-year-old for a fee of £16m plus £5m in add-ons but it was suggested that the amount falls short of Tottenham’s asking price.

If Estadio Deportivo’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs have now offered Lo Celso to Atletico.

The report adds that while the negotiations between Tottenham and Diego Simeone’s side have not progressed, the former Real Betis man is keen to return to La Liga this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how well Lo Celso performed at Villarreal, plenty of La Liga clubs will likely be eyeing a move for the Tottenham man. So, there is no reason for Spurs to sell the midfielder to Emery’s men for a cut-price fee. Perhaps, the North Londoners have offered Lo Celso to Atletico in order to get Villarreal to increase their offer.
