Report: Tottenham have promised to make offer for midfielder this week

According to a report in the print edition of Portuguese publication Record (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make an offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha before the transfer window slams shut.

Spurs could be in the market for a central midfielder in the final few days of the transfer window, with Moussa Sissoko transferring to Watford and Tanguy Ndombele also being linked with a move away.

Palhinha is thought to be one of the options on Spurs’ radar, with the North Londoners allegedly having a loan offer for the midfielder turned down by Sporting already this summer.

It was reported earlier this month that Tottenham could return with a bid of €20m (£17m) plus another €5m (£4.2m) in performance-related bonuses for the 26-year-old.

However, some sources from Portugal subsequently suggested that it would take an offer of around €30m to €40m (£25.5m to £34m) to prise the midfielder away from Lisbon.

Record have now claimed that Palhinha continues to be ‘pole position’ in the list of players who could leave Sporting before the window closes on Tuesday.

The report adds that Tottenham have promised to ‘bring an offer’ to the Portuguese club for the midfielder.

It is asserted that Spurs want to begin talks at around €20m (£17.1m), although they know that Sporting will demand twice as much for Palhinha.

Spurs Web Opinion

It looks like Spurs are keen on signing a central midfielder, apart from Pape Sarr who has rejoined Metz on loan, before the window slams shut to replace Sissoko.

If reports over the last couple of days are to be believed, it seems like Ilaix Moriba is now Paratici’s number one target ahead of Palhinha.
