Report: Tottenham have pulled out of the race for 21-year-old centre-back

InterLive.it claims that Tottenham Hotspur have pulled out of the negotiations for Piero Hincapie, stating that Newcastle United are the only club who seem willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price for the centre-back.

It was reported during last month’s transfer window that Spurs launched an offer of €25m (£21.9m) for the 21-year-old (BILD).

The centre-back stayed put at Bay Arena and it was announced two weeks ago that he had signed a new contract that runs until 2027.

Football Insider suggested on the back of that development Leverkusen will demand a fee of over £50m for the player in the summer.

InterLive.it have now revealed that Tottenham explored a deal for Hincapie in January but the Bundesliga club’s asking price ‘scared’ off Fabio Paratici.

The report adds that Spurs and Liverpool have now pulled out of the negotiations for the Ecuadorian while Inter Milan no longer consider him a realistic target.

It is asserted that only the Magpies would be open to paying the sort of fee that Leverkusen want for Hincpaie in the summer.

It is clear that Josko Gvardiol is now out of Tottneham’s reach and it looks like Alessandro Bastoni might also renew his contract with Inter over the coming months.

That might leave Spurs with no option but to pay the £50m or so that Leverkusen are demanding for Hincapie in the summer if they wish to sign a top left-sided centre-back.
