Report: Tottenham have rejected a loan offer for 24-year-old

Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a loan offer from Ajax for winger Steven Bergwjn, The Times have revealed.

Bergwijn has not had too many opportunities since Antonio Conte took over at Spurs.

The Italian has spoken in glowing terms about the former PSV Eindhoven man’s attributes but he faces an uphill battle to win a place in the side given the form of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura.

Fabrizio Romano told Skrill two weeks ago that the Netherlands international could be one of the players to exit Spurs during the January window.

Ajax have been credited with a ‘serious interest’ in bringing the Tottenham man back to the Eredivisie this month.

The Times have now revealed that Ajax expect David Neres to leave this month and have identified Bergwijn as his replacement.

The Dutch giants are alleged to have made a loan offer for the 24-year-old but Spurs are said to have turned it down.

I suspect that Conte would want to hang on to Bergwijn at least until the end of the season, given the lack of options in the forward areas.

Even Tottenham’s alleged interest in Traore is unlikely to change that, given that Conte is thought to want to convert the Wolves man into a right-wing-back.
