Report: Tottenham have ‘shown the most interest’ in Atletico Madrid star

According to a report from Fichajes.net, Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in snapping up Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window but it was alleged at the time that the Frenchman was not interested in a move to the Premier League.

The 30-year-old eventually completed a season-long loan move back to Atletico, with Diego Simeone’s side having the option to buy him permanently for €40m (£33.5m) at the end of his loan spell.

However, Griezmann has struggled to make much of an impact in his second spell at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, with the forward having found the back of the net just three times in 16 league appearances.

Fichajes.net have now explained the Les Blues star could eventually be on his way to the Premier League, with Tottenham said to be the team that has ‘shown the most interest’.

The report further adds that not many clubs in Europe have the financial muscle to complete a deal for Griezmann due to the economic impact of the pandemic but claims that Spurs are one of the clubs who would be able to pull off the deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

Griezmann might be a decent option for Spurs, given that Antonio Conte is short of options in the forward areas. The Frenchman would be able to take some of the goalscoring burden off Kane and Son’s shoulders. However, the Barca star’s £345,000 per week salary will be a big stumbling block in getting a deal for him over the line.
