Report: Tottenham have their eye on Lille and Portugal star midfielder

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are keen on bringing Lille star Renato Sanches to N17 this summer.

Sanches has caught the eye with his performances in Ligue 1 this campaign, providing two goals and five assists in 25 league matches (TransferMarkt).

Aside from his contributions in front of goal, the energetic box-to-box midfielder has also shown he is not afraid to get stuck in. However, he balances his combative defensive play with poise in possession and graceful dribbling ability.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Spanish outlet AS reported that North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal were both interested in signing Sanches.

Prior to this in the summer window, French publication Le10 Sport tipped Spurs to pursue the Portuguese midfielder.

Sanches would provide a more mobile option to compete with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur next season. With Harry Winks expected to find a new club, this could be a great addition to Antonio Conte’s side (Football.London).

Although he failed to impress in the Premier League during his previous loan spell with Swansea City, Sanches has since blossomed into an extremely impressive footballer.

The 24-year-old excelled at Euro 2020, gaining plaudits from ex-Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas who described Sanches as “terrific” for his Portugal side (BBC One – 9:49 pm, June 23, 2021).
