Report: Tottenham have to make a final decision on player by June 14

BILD have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have to decide whether they want to sign Timo Werner permanently by June 14 as the option to buy clause expires by that date.

Werner has proved a very useful addition for Ange Postecoglou’s men and is growing in confidence with each passing game, having found the back of the net in the last two clashes against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The forward is on loan at Spurs from RB Leipzig and BILD points out that the North London club have the option to make the deal permanent for €17m (£14.5m).

Timo Werner’s Spurs clause will expire early

However, the report reveals that the permanent closure will have to be activated before June 14 as it expires by that date. That means that Tottenham will have to make a decision on whether to sign Werner before the European Championship kicks off in Germany.

The outlet explains that while the forward would like to extend his stay at Spurs, having enjoyed his time at the club so far, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites want to keep him.

Bild point out that the date for the permanent clause is ‘very unusual and early’ but suggest that Leipzig have done so in order to give themselves time to sort out Werner’s future in case Tottenham decide against signing him permanently.

Even if Werner is not a regular starter, he will be a very useful squad player for Postecoglou to have, given his attributes as a footballer as well as his terrific attitude. It would be a no-brainer for Spurs to activate the permanent option, given the modest fee involved.
