Report: Tottenham have two different transfer strategies ready for this summer

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are making two different summer transfer plans – one if they manage to qualify for the Champions League and another if they miss out on the competition.

Ange Postecoglou has been adamant over recent weeks that finishing in the top four will not guarantee progress, with the Tottenham boss also insisting that Champions League qualification will not change the kind of players that the club targets in the summer (Independent).

Last week, The Guardian even claimed that Spurs will hand the Australian plenty of money to spend this summer and claimed that the club’s budget is not likely to be influenced by whether or not they finish in the top four.

Spurs making alternative plans for the summer

However, if The Telegraph’s latest update is to be believed, the Lilywhites are also forming an alternate transfer plan in case they miss out on the Champions League.

Tottenham currently sit seven points behind Aston Villa in fourth place but they do have two games in hand over the Midlands club.

It is explained that Spurs are ‘planning for all scenarios’ and are now identifying ‘realistic targets’ based on whether they make it into Europe’s premier club competition.

Despite Postecolgou’s insistence that Champions League qualification will not matter, the reality is that some players might choose other clubs over Tottenham if the club fail to qualify for the tournament. So it makes sense for the North London side to be preparing for all scenarios.
