Report: Tottenham held meeting with Italian club over summer target

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen for several months.

The 22-year-old Dane has evolved into one of the best young defenders in the Serie A over the past couple of seasons.

Spurs have potential defensive transfer issues with Toby Alderweireld expected to leave Spurs in the summer after the club extended his contract which activated a clause that will allow the Belgian to leave if an offer of £26 million or above is received before the last fourteen days of this summer’s transfer window.

Anderson would be considered to be a like for like replacement for Alderweireld, despite his young age he is known for displaying good composure on the ball along with an impressive passing range.

According to a report in Tuttosport, Sampdoria’s club director, Antonio Romei travelled to London on Tuesday to meet with representatives from Tottenham, to discuss Anderson’s transfer.

The report claims that both parties arrived at an agreement in principle for the transfer of Anderson to Spurs in the summer for a fee of €25 million.

If Spurs can get the young Dane for the reported price, then it will indeed be an astonishing piece of business from the Lilywhites.

Whether anyone can truly replace Alderweireld, remains to be seen.
