Report: Tottenham hold talks with German club over deal for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to add a central midfielder to their squad in the current transfer window due to the current injury crisis and Mousa Dembele’s departure to China.

Spurs have been linked with several midfielders over the past few months including the likes of Franck Kessie, Tanguy Ndombele and Frenkie de Jong.

The latest in the list to be linked with a move to Spurs this month is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann.

The 26-year-old German is having the best season of his career having already notched up 6 goals and 7 assists so far this term.

Hofmann is an all-action box-to-box midfielder who is technically gifted and has a high work-rate, meaning he will fit Pochettino’s system quite well.

Both German publication Bild as well as a Ronan Murphy, a senior journalist working for Goal, have confirmed that Tottenham have held talks with Borussia Monchengladbach about signing the midfielder in January.

It remains to be seen however if Gladbach will let Hofmann go considering that they are currently sitting in third place in the Bundlesliga table and are just three points behind second-place Bayern Munich.
