Report: Tottenham hold the power in Antonio Conte’s contract extension

Tottenham Hotspur are able to trigger an extension to Antonio Conte’s contract whenever they wish to do so, according to Football.London.

Conte was appointed as Tottenham head coach last November, having replaced Nuno Espirito Santo and signed a contract until the summer of 2023.

When Tottenham confirmed the appointment of the former Inter Milan boss, they mentioned they had the option to extend the contract, however, no specifics were given at the time.

It is now being reported that such an option of an extension would have to be mutually agreed between both parties to go ahead, yet, it is said that Spurs hold all of the power when it comes to extending the contract.

Conte has this week been linked with a return to former club Juventus, should the Italian giants decide to sack current boss Max Allegri (il Bianconero).

Conte’s contract situation is the cause of some nervousness for some supporters, however, it is important to understand that he is known not to need the comfort of a lengthy deal to feel happy at a club.

The important aspect remains that Tottenham must continue to back him in future transfer windows, should they wish to match his ambitions and close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
