Report: Tottenham identify Kieran Trippier replacement

Kieran Trippier completed a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid yesterday after spending four years in North London.

While the England international wasn’t in good form last season, he has been a loyal servant to the club since moving from Burnley in the summer of 2015.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolò Schira has claimed that Tottenham are planning to replace Trippier with Napoli right back Elseid Hysaj.

The versatile Albanian, who can play at both full back positions, has been solid at the back for Napoli for the last few seasons.

Schira claims that it was Hysaj who was Atletico’s primary target but that Diego Simeone chose to settle for Trippier after the La Liga club failed to reach an agreement with Napoli for Hysaj.

He suggests that Tottenham and Juventus are now competing for the defender’s signature.

Tottenham have also been linked with Dani Alves, who is now a free agent after his contract with PSG ran out (Mundo Deportivo).

Hsyaj is solid but fairly unspectacular going forward. We would prefer seeing Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Juan Foyth competing for the right back spot rather than bringing in someone like Hsyaj.
