Report: Tottenham interested in Barcelona forward amid contract standoff

According to a report from 90min, Tottenham are one of a number of clubs to have expressed an interest in signing Ousmane Dembele amidst his reported contract stand-off with Barcelona.

Barcelona shelled out £135m to snap up Dembele in 2017 after the winger burst onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund but he has struggled to show consistency in his four years at the Camp Nou.

With the attacker’s contract running out next summer, 90min reveal that the Catalan giants are keen to extend Dembele’s deal.

However, it is explained that they are having a hard time meeting Dembele’s wage demands, with the player thought to be demanding a pay rise on his current agreement which is already worth in excess of £200,000-a-week.

Barcelona would allegedly prefer the Frenchman to take a wage cut due to their massive debt but the winger’s representatives are thought to have informed the club that ‘transfer options are piling up’ for the player.

90min claim that Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City are all showing interest in bringing Dembele to the Premier League.

Additionally, Bayern Munich, former club, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be keen and willing to meet the player’s wage demands.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dembele’s talent has never been in question and I am not surprised that clubs are lining up to meet his wage demands if he becomes available for a cut-price transfer fee.

However, the only concern I have is regarding the various reports about his poor attitude. Perhaps, that is what has stopped the 24-year-old from reaching his potential at Barca.
