Report: Tottenham interested in Ligue 1 right-back

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Lille right-back Zeki Celik this summer, according to L’Equipe.

It is not the first time in which Spurs have been liked with a move for the Turkish international with Celik admitting in November the thought of playing in the Premier League “attracts” him following the speculation with the North Londoners (Top Mercato).

The speculation came before Tottenham decided to move for Matt Doherty from Wolves with the Republic of Ireland international having failed to reach the expected heights last season.

Celik made 29 appearances in Ligue 1 last season in Lille’s title-winning campaign, also scoring four goals and providing three assists (transfermarkt).

Serge Aurier’s future at Tottenham is also said to be uncertain with the Ivory Coast international set to enter the last year of his contract, the Evening Standard claimed earlier this week that the former PSG defender is expected to leave this summer.

The right-back position is an area which needs to be addressed this summer. Aurier’s contract situation means the club must look to sell him to recoup some funds while Celik would prove to be a significant upgrade, given his pace and attacking qualities.
