Report: Tottenham join Brentford in the race for 20-year-old Eredivisie star

According to Football Insider, sources have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will join Brentford in the race for 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko.

Spurs have been hit by quite an injury crisis of late, especially in the wide positions. Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon are all set to be out for extended periods.

This, coupled with injuries and suspensions to key players in other areas of the field has led to Tottenham losing three games on the bounce, followed by a draw away to Man City.

Come January, Spurs might be looking to bolster their roster with a new winger and this is where Bakayoko comes in. Sky Sports revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham were interested in the PSV Eindhoven wide-man but Brentford were also circling.

With four goals and 12 assists in 23 games this season, the Belgian youngster has made quite the impression (Transfermarkt). Predominantly a right winger who loves to cut inside onto his left foot, Bakayoko can also do a decent job on the other side.

Spurs have been following Bakayoko for quite some time now. Back in August, the Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon that Tottenham had sent scouts to the Ibrox to watch the 20-year-old in action in the Champions League qualifier against Rangers.

Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s shortlist

Along with Samuel Iling-Junior of Juventus, Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s January shortlist, as they look to reinforce their depth in the attacking areas.

The pacy winger has already made his senior Belgium debut. He has since gone on to represent his nation nine times and has scored one goal. Despite being just 20, he is certainly not short of experience.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Ange Postecoglou favours Samuel Iling-Junior more than Bakayoko at the moment but things could change when the clubs engage in negotiations. The former also helps us fulfil the homegrown quota requirements.

Bakayoko is an interesting option and can be considered should a move for Iling-Junior prove to be infeasible. The 20-year-old has immense potential but we would be better off going for the Juventus man at the moment.
