Report: Tottenham join four Premier League clubs in race for 15-year-old starlet

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have joined a number of Premier League clubs in the race for St Mirren starlet Murray Campbell.

Spurs always seem to have one eye on emerging talents, two summers ago swooping for Alfie Devine from Wigan Athletic who has made a very promising start to his career in N17 (The Athletic).

The Lilywhites have now registered an interest in Campbell, who at just 15-years-old is already training regularly with the St Mirren first team and even played 45 minutes of their 3-0 over the Crusaders on Monday evening (Football Insider).

Speaking after the game, St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson was full of praise for Campbell. He said (Daily Record): “Murray Campbell is only 15 and was playing against really experienced Irish league players and coped really well.”

If Spurs are to land the young defender this summer, they will have to fend off competition from Premier League rivals such as Southampton, Leicester, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

St Mirren are also hopeful of keeping their wonderkid, with Football Insider claiming that the Scottish side are ready to offer the player a professional contract when he turns 16 next month.

I’m very rarely against these types of transfers. Take for instance the case of Devine. On the bench in the North London derby at the end of last season after less than two years at the club.

For such small fees, these players are worth the punt more often than not and they help raise the standard of the entire academy.
