Report: Tottenham join race to sign full-back – But he can’t play for them this season

Tottenham are interested in signing Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence, according to Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old is currently spending this season on loan at Nottingham Forest and has impressed during the first half of the term.

Spence has appeared on Tottenham’s radar in the past, with the full-back previously being tracked in January 2020 when Spurs were working under Jose Mourinho.

Sky Sports now claim Spurs are back in the race for Spence and are considering a move before the transfer deadline at the end of this month.

The report suggests Antonio Conte is keen on bolstering the wing-back options at his disposal to provide extra competition for Emerson Royal.

However, Spurs aren’t alone in their interest with both Arsenal and Leeds monitoring Spence respectively.

It is also noted that a deal for Spence would see him play out the rest of his loan at Forest, as he has already featured for two clubs this season.

This would be a good move down the line as he is a talented player, but it doesn’t help out Spurs right now, which is what is important at the moment. However, if a deal is at a modest price, then there isn’t much harm in looking to pursue the move.
