Report: Tottenham join two European heavyweights in race for Ajax midfielder

The name Donny Van de Beek may still cut deep for many Tottenham fans after the midfielder scored an early away goal against them in the Champions League last week.

The Dutch midfielder latched onto a through ball after 15 minutes and slotted home calmly past Lloris to give his side a huge advantage in the two-legged semi-final.

However, a report from the Daily Mail now claims that the player’s future could, in fact, lie at Spurs, as the club join Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the race for his signature.

As Tottenham could lose Christian Eriksen to Real Madrid in the summer (Daily Mail), with the playmaker entering the final year of his contract, Tottenham may look to Donny to fill the void.

The Daily Mail say the Ajax midfield man would set Spurs back around £45m, but their positive relationship with the Dutch club could be an advantage.

Spurs have purchased Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, and Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in recent years.

With Pochettino reportedly being given £100m to spend this summer (Sun), could Donny Van de Beek be one of the Argentine’s prime targets?

Spurs Web Opinion:

There are a number of Ajax stars who I would love to see at Spurs, De Ligt, Van de Beek, and Ziyech being the top three. However, if Eriksen is to leave the club, Donny looks to be a prime replacement with the form he has shown this season. £45m also is not an awful lot of money for a top class playmaker in the current transfer climate, especially for a 22-year-old.
