Report: Tottenham join West Ham in race for Italy international

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi.

After impressing on loan at Monza in Serie B during the 2020-21 campaign, Frattesi established himself as a mainstay in Saussolo’s starting lineup last season and won several admirers with his performances.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported during the summer transfer window that both AS Roma and West Ham United expressed interest in the midfielder, who was said to be valued at €30m (£26.1m).

However, the 23-year-old ended up staying put at the Mapei Stadium and has made a bright start to the new season, having found the back of the net twice in seven Serie A matches so far (Transfermarkt).

Gazzetta have now claimed that Spurs and Brighton have also entered the race for Frattesi’s signature.

The report claims that the Premier League sides will continue to watch the Sassuolo star closely, with a January bid from one of the clubs being on the cards.

I expect Pape Matar Sarr to be loaned during the January transfer window, and so, one would assume that Tottenham would be in the market for a midfielder.

However, rather than going for a natural number 8 like Frattesi, I suspect Spurs will go for a versatile attacker like Malinovskyi or Kamada, who can operate centrally as well as out wide.
