Report: Tottenham monitoring 22-year-old defender ahead of transfer window

With Norwich City’s relegation to the Championship now confirmed, it is now being reported that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on securing the services of one of their up and coming talents.

Spurs have previously been heavily linked with a move for Max Aarons, with the young right-back coping impressively during his debut season in the top flight (Foot Mercato).

However, another player who is said to be on the Lilywhites’ radar is Ben Godfrey (Express).

The 22-year-old, who has been deployed at both centre back and as a defensive midfielder, has been one of the shining lights during the campaign for Daniel Farke’s side.

Previous reports have claimed that Tottenham are looking to complete a £25million deal for the defender (Football Insider) but The Athletic have reported that Norwich want a staggering £50million in order to allow him to leave Carrow Road.

Tottenham’s interest in Godfrey has also been confirmed by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

Schira took to social media to tweet about Spurs’ interest in the Norwich stopper:

Godfrey fits the profile of the kind of signing we usually go for i.e a young, upcoming, English talent with potentially high resale value. I really like the look of the youngster and I can see why the club would be interested in him.

Given that Tottenham are said to be in the market for a central defender as well as a defensive midfielder, Godfrey with his versatility will be able to cover for both positions. However, any deal would depend on Norwich being ready to lower their rumoured valuation.
