Report: Tottenham keen on defender with £68.7m transfer release clause

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sevilla defender Jules Koundé, according to Spanish news outlet ABC.

Tottenham, however, face competition from Real Madrid, who are said to be prepared to pay €50million (£42.9million) to land the 22-year-old if they manage to sell Raphael Varane.

Koundé is reported to favour a move to the Santiago Bernabeu with Sevilla telling interested parties that they must meet the €80million (£68.7million) transfer release clause.

Real are not prepared to meet the figure, however, they could decide to use Isco as a makeweight to help sweeten the deal but his current salary could prove to be an issue.

The Frenchman made 49 appearances for Sevilla last season, helping his side qualify for the Champions League just two points behind Barcelona.

Football.London reported earlier this year that Tottenham are prioritising a move for a central defender this summer.

Koundé has become one of European football’s most sought after young defenders and there could potentially be a bidding war for his services.

Even at £42.9million, it would likely to be too expensive for Tottenham given the other areas of the squad which they also have to focus on, Joachim Andersen could represent better value for money.
