Report: Tottenham keen on move for experienced Bundesliga midfielder

Tottenham are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hoffman this summer, according to Bild.

Hoffman, who can play behind the striker or on the right-wing, has been in strong form for the Bundesliga outfit, recording eight goals and two assists this term (Transfermarkt).

However, the 29-year-old sees his contract with Gladbach expire in the summer of 2023, which could lead to his availability this summer should his not sign fresh terms (TransferMarkt).

As such, Bild now claim Tottenham have expressed their interest in securing a transfer for Hoffman at the end of the season but are also joined by Atletico Madrid.

The report states that, especially with his contract running down, he is aware of potentially receiving ‘lucrative offers’ from clubs such as the aforementioned duo, which could sway his decision.

Gladbach have also stated their intentions to shed their current wage bill, with Hoffman and goalkeeper Yann Sommer just two of the names touted to be heading towards the exit at the Borussia-Park.

The club has endured a difficult campaign thus far and is sitting 13th in the Bundesliga table just four points above the relegation zone.

This doesn’t exactly scream a signing that would instantly improve Spurs, considering he is approaching 30 years of age and having never played outside the German top-flight.

If he is a relatively cheap option, then maybe the club will entertain it, but this move would plug a gap for a short-term spell at best.
