Report: Tottenham keen on signing Real Madrid playmaker

Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a new playmaker this summer, despite having gone on a 15-month transfer hiatus.

Spurs failed to buy a single player in the last two transfer windows, with their last purchase coming in the form of Champions League hero Lucas Moura back in January 2018.

Tottenham will surely invest in the squad this summer after reaching the CL final and securing a top-four spot.

The need for new faces will only be increased if the reports about Christian Eriksen already agreeing on a move to Real Madrid are true (El Chiringuito – as reported by The Mirror).

However, Spanish media outlet OK Diario have reported that Spurs also have their eye on a Real Madrid playmaker in return, with Pochettino very keen on Marco Asensio.

The report suggests that Asensio is happy in Madrid, despite not being a first-team regular.

Could Spurs tempt the 23-year-old away from the Bernabeu as part of an Eriksen deal?

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am of the opinion that it can be more helpful to use a player as a bargaining chip to sign the replacement you really want, rather than simply taking the money. Ordinarily, Real Madrid may not want to sell Asensio, but if they are demanded to choose between Eriksen and him, they may change their minds. I would prefer a move for James Maddison, but Asensio does look like a fantastic player.
