Report: Tottenham keen to sign former Liverpool fan favourite in January

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho during the January transfer window, according to El Nacional.

North London rivals Arsenal are also keen to bring the Brazilian back to the Premier League, while Liverpool are reported to have ended any previous interest in their former player.

Coutinho left Anfield for Barcelona in a £146million deal, having signed a contract at the Nou Camp until 2023 (Sky Sports).

Barcelona are currently experiencing financial issues and are desperate to offload the 29-year-old, with it claimed that the Catalan giants could be prepared half of Coutinho’s £200,000 a week wage.

Coutinho has only featured for 104 minutes for Barcelona in all competitions this season after recently recovering from injury (transfermarkt).

It is not the first time in which Spurs have been linked with a move for Coutinho, with Mauricio Pochettino said to have been livid with Tottenham after they failed to sign him in the summer of 2019 (The Sun).

Coutinho is exactly the type of creative spark which Tottenham have been desperately lacking since the departure of Cristian Eriksen to Inter Milan, he is the type of player who can take a game by the scruff of its neck and win all three points from a moment of magic.
