Report: Tottenham ‘keeping close tabs’ on prolific Premier League striker

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Toney has had a meteoric rise over the last few seasons and the striker is now finding the back of the net with regularity at Premier League level.

In fact, his goal in Brentford’s 5-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday was his sixth goal of the season, with only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane having scored more in the Premier League, with 15 and nine goals respectively (Premierleague.com).

Football Insider assert that Spurs are assessing the market for a powerful and mobile forward who is proven in the Premier League and capable of slotting into Antonio Conte’s system.

It is asserted that the North London club have identified Toney as an option and that the Bees star ‘fits the mould perfectly’.

The Lilywhites are alleged to be watching the 26-year-old regularly and representatives from the North London club were present at St James’ Park on Saturday to run the rule over the striker.

Perhaps, Spurs are looking for another forward option to replace Lucas Moura, who is expected to leave next summer.

With Kulusevski, Richarlison and Son at their best out wide, it would not be surprising if Conte wants another forward who can play centrally.

The only question is whether Toney would be open to the switch, given that he might not start every game at Spurs.
