Report: Tottenham launch £27m bid for Brazilian defender

Tottenham Hotspur’s rumoured pursuit of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes is heating up with reports suggesting that the North Londoners have now made an official offer for the central defender.

The 22-year-old has been extremely consistent at the back for Lille since breaking into Christophe Galtier’s side and it looks as if he has won several admirers in doing so.

Foot Mercato reported two weeks ago that Napoli already had a deal in principle in place for the defender worth around €22million (£20m) but Spurs made an eleventh-hour approach to try and tempt him to North London.

The Brazilian has admitted that he is ready to take the next step in his career this summer and that a move to the Premier League would appeal to him (L’Equipe).

A report in Fichajes.net (as translated by The Daily Mail) now claims that Spurs have launched a £27million bid to try and secure Magalhaes’ signature.

Bolstering the Spurs backline is said to be a priority for Jose Mourinho this summer, with the report asserting that Spurs hope to beat both Arsenal and Everton to Magalhaes.

This is in keeping with earlier reports that suggested we are primarily looking towards the Ligue 1 this summer to try and complete bargain deals. With Joao Sacramento’s and Nuno Santos’ experience at Lille, I am not surprised we are rumoured to be exploring many of their players.
